St. Patrick's Cathedral is the home church for the archbishop of New York and the most famous Catholic building in New York City. The neo-Gothic cathedral, located on Fifth Avenue and 50th Street, was designed by James Renwick, Jr., completed in 1878, and consecrated in May 1879. It contains several sculptures, stained glass windows, paintings, and other artistic treasures drawn from Europe and around the United States. Mass is said daily, and it is free to enter.
