7 Best Places To Go Ice Skating in Jan & Feb 2022
Ice skating in the city is so much fun. It’s cheap, COVID safe and great for solo travelers, couples and families. Each winter it seems like there’s more and more ice skating rinks that open but we’re listing our 7 favorite rinks to make it easy.
Rockefeller Center
Probably the most famous rink in NYC, Rockefeller Center remains at the top of the list because skating next to the giant Christmas tree at the base of Top of The Rock and across the street from St. Patrick's Cathedral is pretty epic.
While Rockefeller Center is the most iconic Bryant park is a favorite. It’s right in the middle of the city walking distance from Times Square, Grand Central Station and the NY Public Library. Plus there are shops, food and other fun activities right in the park. Plus you can skate for free if you bring your own skates.
Cost: $15 including skate rental. FREE if you have skates.
Any reason to go to Central Park is a good reason. Central Park actually has two rinks in the winter, Wollman Rink and Lasker Rink. Wollman Rink is in the south end of the park and has beautiful backdrop for those IG posts. Lasker Rink is in the north section of the park, but it is closed until 2024.
Cost: Adults, $14 off peak, $23 peak and holidays. Kids, $6
Designed by Olympians Melissa Gregory and Denis Petukhov. The rink at Brookside Place is in lower Manhattan near One World Observatory and the 9/11 memorial. Plus this beautiful rink is attached to an indoor shopping mall to cure your retail therapy.
It’s no secret how cool Williamsburg is anymore, and one of the coolest hotels in Williamsburg is the Willam Vale. The 23rd-floor rooftop transforms into a skating rink in the winter offering one of the best experiences and beautiful views of Manhattan.
Cost: $20 for adults & $12 for kids. Includes skate rental.
The great thing about NYC is it’s always evolving. This winter a new rink opened up in downtown Brooklyn and offers skating lessons for all levels. Private lessons, semi-private lessons are available. Tickets must be reserved in advance.
Rounding out our list is the rink on Governor’s Island. Until last year Governor’s Island was only open to the public during the summer, giving New Yorkers an escape from our cramped apartments. But this year Governor’s Island opened its first winter village with a 5,000 square foot ice rink. The rink is open Friday, Saturday & Sunday from 10am - 5pm. This is a great option if you consider NYC your home away from home.
Cost: FREE on Fridays. $11 on Saturday & Sunday. $8 skate rental
