The 10 Best NYC Rooftops For May 2022

May in NYC is officially rooftop season. Since the pandemic, the number of people flocking to these beautiful outdoor spaces has been high. Luckily, there are enough rooftop options with ample outdoor space, breathtaking views, and renowned mixologists. Picking the right one can be tricky, but we're here. To help make sense of the noise. This year we plan to publish a new list each month, so you know the best of the best no matter when you're here. Visit our experiences page for more options, or contact us for tailored recommendations.

  1. The Ready | 112 E 11th St, New York, NY 10003

Hipsters and bottle-service seekers alike will find themselves on this rooftop that models itself as a rooftop backyard with beer pong and other backyard games. $1 tacos and $5 margaritas are served Wednesday - Friday 4pm - 6pm and 12pm - 3pm on weekends.

  1. Harriet’s Rooftop | 60 Furman St, Brooklyn, NY 11201

The best views of the Manhattan skyline are not from Manhattan; it's from Brooklyn. On top of the 1 Hotel Brooklyn, Harriett's rooftop is the best place to soak in a classic Brooklyn Bridge view overlooking the East River. The rooftop design includes couches, umbrellas, lounge chairs, and more. Also available: specialty cocktails from chef Denevin Miranda and small plates are the sure bets from the rooftop's open-air bar.

  1. 230 Fifth Av | 230 5th Ave, New York, NY 10001

The 1,000-strong capacity rooftop bar is a staple of Manhattan's party scene. The contemporary beach-chic decor makes for a more laid-back atmosphere than you might be used to at standard New York bars. A full list of house cocktails is available on the 230 Fifth app (available on iOS or Android), including variations on Long Island Iced Tea, Mai Tai, and Moscow Mule, and a feature to chat with nearby tables.

  1. Monarch Rooftop | 71 W 35th St, New York, NY 10001

The Monarch is a huge, open-air rooftop bar atop the Midtown Marriott with breathtaking views of the Empire State Building. As luxurious as the view is, though, it pales compared to the cocktails. Our favorite is the Fiery Skipper, slightly tart with just enough sweetness and bitter undertones; they perfectly capture the essence of The Monarch's easygoing atmosphere without being overly complicated.

  1. Jimmy | 15 Thompson St, New York, NY 10013

Jimmy rooftop is an NYC mainstay on the roof of Modernhaus Soho Hotel. One of the few rooftops that is great year-round, with beautiful rooftop views in the summer and working fireplaces in the winter. Craft cocktails are available in all seasons, like the Golden Hour (gin, pear, ginger, prosecco).

  1. SERRA by Birreria (Eataly) | 200 5th Ave, New York, NY 10010

Above the hip food hall Eataly in Flatiron, the rooftop is a hidden gem. Decorated as an idyllic garden sanctuary, Eataly is a perfect option for families who want to enjoy beautiful views. For adults, the bar is stocked with botanically inspired cocktails like the "Tequila All’alba" (tequila, tangerine juice, red wine) and the "Guardie e Ladri" (bourbon, amaretto, almond) are ready. There are food options and non-alcoholic drinks for kids while they take in the view.

  1. Dear Irving | 310 W 40th St, New York, NY 10018

Dear Irving on Hudson is an elegant two-level restaurant and cocktail bar located atop Aliz Hotel Times Square. With a cozy but sophisticated indoor lounge decorated in a 1960s James Bond theme and a lovely outdoor terrace offering sweeping 360-degree views of the Manhattan skyline. The lounge's cocktail menu is influenced by New York-made spirits and features both modern takes on classics and more straightforward drinks. Occupying both levels, the restaurant serves fresh bites to share and classic cocktails.

  1. Elsie Rooftop | 1412 Broadway, New York, NY 10018

On the 25th floor of a semi-hidden high-rise building near Bryant Park sits Elsie Rooftop, an ornate bar and restaurant designed in the image of Elsie de Wolfe. Elsie Rooftop gives us reason to glam up and an escape above the city to partake in seasonally focused menus and expert cocktails. Try the $21 truffled grilled cheese while sipping on an Earl Gray Old Fashioned amidst this luxury.

  1. The Crown | 50 Bowery, New York, NY 10013

Spend a sunny spring afternoon on Hotel 50 Bowery’s exclusive rooftop – the only terrace in the city with views of both the historic Bowery and the iconic Williamsburg Bridge – before enjoying a refreshing cocktail made with Gerber Group’s classic and seasonal cocktails alongside an expansive collection of small-batch spirits.

  1. Sandbar | 152 W 26th St, New York, NY 10001

There's simply no better place to be this summer than Sandbar Rooftop for those in the know. Perched atop the 23rd floor of the Hilton, this Hampton-themed open-air terrace features lifeguard chairs, hanging lounges, and swings created from reclaimed wine barrels. The bar features handcrafted cocktail menus designed by their house mixologist and nearly 360-degree views of Manhattan and the Empire State Building.
